Wireless Communications Install Technician - Oneonta, NY
Responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining two-way radio communication systems for various organizations. This involves analyzing and diagnosing communication system problems, repairing equipment and performing scheduled maintenance checks to ensure that the systems function effectively and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Install, maintain, and repair two-way radio communication systems
• Perform regular preventative maintenance on equipment and systems
• Respond to service requests and troubleshoot equipment and system problems
• Analyze and diagnose communication system problems, and recommend solutions
• Test and adjust two-way radio equipment and system components
• Document all repairs and maintenance performed on equipment and systems
• Keep inventory of parts and equipment needed for repairs and maintenance
• Advise customers on technical issues and provide training on the use of two-way radio equipment and systems
• Follow safety procedures and regulations when working on communication systems
Requirements:
• Associate’s degree in Electronics or related field, or equivalent experience
• At least two years of experience in the installation and maintenance of two-way radio communication systems
• Knowledge of two-way radio systems and components, including mobile and portable radios, repeaters, antennas, and base stations
• Familiarity with common two-way radio protocols and communication standards
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings if required
RF Technician
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary: Repair and trouble shoot two-way radios and radio systems. Design and implement two-way radio systems.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Install, inspect, maintain and repair radio equipment (mobile units, base stations, relay station, portable and hand carried units), radio control equipment, microwave systems, power supplies, antennas, masts, and related equipment and various electronic measuring and testing devices. They may work on fiber optic lines, transmitters, signal processing equipment and operate network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, and RF generators.
- Install two-way radio mobile transceivers, electronic sirens, emergency lighting systems, mobile video systems, computer equipment, and associated electronic equipment. Installs, maintains, and repairs two-way base communications, microwave, audio, control, antenna, transmission line, and associated electronic equipment. Installs microwave and control consoles at base station and repeater sites. Tests operational capabilities of mobile installations. Provides ground assistance for base station, radio tower, microwave antenna, and transmission line installations. Programs mobile, portable, and fixed radio equipment.

- Must travel to customer sites on regular basis

Experience in radio installation, maintenance, and repair work. Knowledge of electricity, electronics, and automotive electrical systems; the installation and repair of mobile and fixed radio equipment; base station antenna, microwave antenna, transmission lines, and associated equipment; antenna orientation and radiating patterns; and Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations. Skill in the use of maintenance, testing, and repair tools and equipment. Ability to install and maintain radio and associated electronic equipment; to detect and eliminate trouble in radio transmitters, receivers, and other electronic devices; to interpret schematic diagrams and technical reference materials; to communicate effectively; and to provide guidance to others
Language Ability:
Ability to read, communicate with peers and customers in a polite professional manner, ability to comprehend technical directions and manuals.
Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, inventory software, internet software, and automated systems.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and at least 2 years related experience and/or training.
Certificates and Licenses:
Driver’s license, R56 Certified, ETA Certified, must achieve all required Motorola certifications.
